Aricept is the first drug that has been approved for the treatment
of all stages of Alzheimer’s disease. Though there are four other
drugs Aricept is considered to be the best and it is the first drug
to be approved for the treatment of mild, moderate and severe
dementia. Eisai Co Ltd a research based human health care company
whose headquarters is at Tokyo along with its subsidiary Eisai
Medical Research Inc has received the approval for manufacturing and
marketing the drug Aricept.
A recent survey indicates that around 4.5 million people in United
States are affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Of this around 20% of
the people are in the severe stages of dementia. Eisai manufactures
Aricept in two different strengths. They generally contain 5mg or
10mg of Donezepil Hydrochloride. The 5mg tablets are white in color
whereas the 10 mg tablets are yellow in color. They are manufactured
in different packing. Both the 5mgs and 10mg tablets come in a
bottle packing of 30 tablets and 90 tablets.
It is also available in blister pack of 100 tablets. Aricept orally
disintegrating tablets are also available in two strengths both 5mg
and 10mg. The orally disintegrating tablets are available in a
blister pack of 30 tablets. Despite the side effects Aricept is
considered to be the only and the best drug in effective treatment
of all stages of Alzheimer disease. Aricept is not only manufactured
by Eisai but there are also other Pharmaceutical company’s which
manufacture Aricept.
